Dear Residents: As many of you know, on December 22, 2017 the President signed into law a federal tax reform bill which will limit the deductibility of local and state taxes starting in 2018 to an annual cap of $10,000. In response to this, Governor Cuomo issued an Executive State Order on December 22nd which will permit the Town of Oyster Bay, to legally accept the 2017 prepayment of 2018 Town, County and School property taxes from Tuesday, December 26th through December 31st based upon budgets already adopted by the respective municipal authorities, a finalized tax assessment roll and the issuance of a tax warrant. The Town will accept mailed 2018 property tax payments with a check dated in 2017 having a 2017 postmark. The Town of Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes Office will be open with extended hours from Tuesday, December 26th through Saturday, December 30th and is located at 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay. Contact information is: JStefanich@oysterbay-ny.gov. (516) 624-6400.
The Village of Old Brookville is responsible for collecting its own property taxes and has a fiscal year from June 1, 2018 – May 31, 2019. Unlike the Town, County and Schools, since the Village’s budget, tax roll and tax warrant for the next fiscal year have not been adopted and will be approved in April and May, 2018, the Village Tax Collector (Village Clerk) cannot legally accept the 2017 prepayment of 2018-2019 Village property taxes by December 31, 2017.
Bernie Ryba
Mayor – Village of Old Brookville
